COMMUNICATIONS OFFICER

The Union County Sheriff’s Office 9-1-1 Communications Center is hiring Communications Officers. We are looking for professionals who communicate clearly, remain composed under pressure, and take pride in helping others.

This role is often the first point of contact in an emergency. The decisions you make and the information you gather help guide police, fire, and EMS responses in real time.


You do not need dispatch experience. If you bring the work ethic, judgment, and communication skills, we will provide the training and support.

ROLE OVERVIEW

A Communications Officer supports public safety operations by:

  • Answering emergency and non-emergency calls
  • Gathering critical information quickly and accurately
  • Dispatching police, fire, and EMS
  • Providing clear updates and coordination support to field responders
  • Documenting events professionally and thoroughly

Starting salary: ($31.23 - $35.37) + (based on Collective Bargaining Agreement)

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
  • U.S. citizen
  • 18 years of age or older
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Valid Ohio driver’s license
  • Strong ability to multi-task
  • Flexible schedule availability for various shifts

This is a public safety environment with 24/7/365 coverage. Schedules may include nights, weekends, holidays, and overtime as needed.

  • Consistency and reliability matter, especially during high call volume
  • Teamwork is a core expectation
  • Typical Shifts:
    • 0600-1400
    • 1400-2200
    • 2200-0600
