District Technician Wanted
Job Title: District Technician Employment Type: Full Time/Non-Exempt/Unclassified
Location: 18000 St. Rt. 4, Ste. D, Marysville, OH Office Hours: Monday - Friday 8 am - 4:30 pm
Salary: $20.00 - $32.00 Hourly Plus excellent benefits sand paid leave
DESCRIPTION
The Union Soil and Water Conservation District is now hiring a full-time District Drainage Technician. This position works under general supervision of the District Administrator, and is responsible for performing field and office technical duties in support of our organization. Also provides drainage technician and inspection services in support of any new solar-powered electric generation facilities that are being built in Union County. In general, will provide oversight of drainage in the areas where any solar projects are taking placed. This person will also be involved in reviewing and/or assisting with the sizing and routing of subsurface drainage around and/or through the project areas. Will identify, monitor, and work to resolve any drainage issues that may result from project installation.

QUALIFICATIONS
An example of acceptable qualifications:
Possession of a Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in a related field of study; one (1) or more years of related experience and/or training; experience may be considered in lieu of education; or any equivalent combination of education, experience, and training that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities. Must be proficient in AutoCAD and have the ability to produce NRCS Engineering plans for Conservation Practices. The selected candidate must undergo Ohio and federal background checks. The final offer of employment will be contingent upon the findings of these checks.
LICENSURE OR CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS
Must possess a valid Ohio driver's license and maintain insurability under the SWCD vehicle insurance policy.
EQUIPMENT OPERATED
The following are examples only and are not intended to be all-inclusive: Computer, computer software (e.g., Microsoft Office, Outlook, and other applicable computer software), printer, copy machine, calculator, fax machine, other standard business office equipment, motor vehicle.
INHERENTLY HAZARDOUS OR PHYSICALLY DEMANDING WORKING CONDITIONS
The employee has exposure to chemical compounds found in an office environment (e.g., toner, correction fluid, etc.); the employee may be required to lift, carry, push, and pull objects; the employee may be required to occasionally bend, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; this is considered sedentary work, and the employee must demonstrate the ability to perform the physical demands required of the position in accordance with the U.S. Department of Labor’s physical demands strength ratings.
In cases of emergency, unpredictable situations, and/or department needs, may be required to lift, push, pull, and/or carry objects heavier than D.O.L. strength ratings recommend.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
(1) Provides technical and engineering field assistance to District cooperators and units of government; prepares engineering plans for conservation projects as have been identified in the District’s Annual and Long Range Plans(the development of the plans will follow the guidelines established in the NRCS National Engineering
Manual and related handbooks to meet design and plan reparation requirements); assists in the development of resources conservation plans for District cooperators applying conservation practices.
(2) Provides technical information to land users and prospective pond owners in accordance with township M.O.U.’s; provides assistance to land users under Conservation Works of Improvement procedures and provides assistance to farmers to stay in compliance under the current provisions of pollution abatement laws and nutrient management laws and the current Farm Bill.
(3) Assists in conducting tours, field days, public viewing of demonstrations (e.g., equipment, plots, practices, etc.); maintains personal contact with District cooperators and explains the District conservation programs to the public.
(4) Performs preventative maintenance on equipment assigned by NRCS to the work unit and/or owned by Union SWCD.
(5) Develops and maintains resource inventories; processes cooperator applications; completes various reports regarding the conservation program; write news articles; maintains equipment lease records; provides training where needed on technical projects; assists with the District programs as needed.
(6) Maintains required licensures and certification, if any; continues proficiency in subject areas through professional continuing education.
(7) Meets all job safety requirements and all applicable safety standards that pertain to essential functions.
(8) Demonstrates regular and predictable attendance.
OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
(9) Performs other related duties as assigned
(10) Attends staff meetings as assigned.
MINIMUM ACCEPTABLE CHARACTERISTICS
Knowledge of: *County, Department, and Division goals and objectives; *County, Department, and Division policies and procedures; *personnel rules and regulations; office practices and procedures; English grammar and spelling; records management; AutoCAD, ArcMap, and other needed engineering applications.
Skill in: computer operation; use of modern office equipment.
Ability to: develop and maintain effective working relationships; perform the job safely; interpret a variety of instructions in written, oral, picture, or schedule form; work efficiently; maintain accurate records; prepare accurate and concise reports; exercise independent judgment and discretion; sorts items into categories according to established methods; communicate effectively; maintain confidentiality; travel to and gain access to Jobsite; be a highly self-motivated individual; work alone or as part of a team; write and keep good records of activities; perform mathematical computations for assessments; operate a PC computer using MS Windows environment.
